Jordan produces late cameo for Sussex

HOVE, England, CMC – Barbados-born all-rounder Chris Jordan produced a late cameo for Sussex but was largely ineffective with the ball as they slumped to a five-wicket defeat to Essex in the One-Day Cup here Monday.

Sent in, the hosts rattled up 271 all out off their 50 overs, with opener Ed Joyce top-scoring with 73 and captain Luke Wright and New Zealander Ross Taylor both scoring exactly 50.

Jordan arrived at number seven to smashed 36 from 22 deliveries to provide the innings with impetus. The England player blasted three fours and two sixes, putting on 33 for the sixth wicket with Taylor and a further 26 for the eighth wicket with Ajmal Shahzad (7).

Right-arm seamer Matthew Quinn claimed four for 71.

However, Jesse Ryder then stroked exactly 100 off 110 balls with six fours and three sixes, to lift the visitors to victory with an over left in the contest.

Dutchman Ryan ten Doeschate struck an unbeaten 48 while opener Nick Browne got 44.

Seamer Jordan picked up a single wicket – that of Ryder in the 48th over – as he conceded 49 runs from his eight overs.

The 27-year-old Jordan played first class cricket for Barbados as recent as four years ago but has since gone on to represent England in eight Tests, 27 One-Day Internationals and 17 T20s.
