The Regional Under-17 cricket tournament is headed for a nail-biting finish on Sunday when the final round of the competition is contested with hosts Trinidad and Tobago, and Guyana level at the top of the points table.

Points Standings of Regional Under-17 Post Round 5

On Saturday the front-runners, undefeated after two matches, were scheduled to clash at the National Cricket Centre in Balmain, Couva but a waterlogged outfield prevented any play.

This has set the stage for a photo-finish as neither team can afford to slip up, with Trinidad and Tobago meeting Barbados at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port-of-Spain; and Guyana clashing with defending champions Windward Islands at the NCC Ground in Balmain.

On Saturday, Barbados completed a resounding seven-wicket victory over the Leeward islands at Gilbert Park in California, and the Windwards crushed Jamaica by eight wickets at the Oval.

Jamaica Under-17s, sent in to bat after losing the toss were all out for 146 in 47.3 overs with opener Dorrell Thomas top-scoring with 32 with three boundaries, and Dominic Samuels making 31.

They were restricted by tight bowling by the Windwards whose Johnel Eugene grabbed four wickets for 29 runs in his allotted ten overs, while Johann Jerimah claimed three scalps, and Urnell Thomas grabbed two.

The Windwards’ run chase was over in 39.2 overs as Tijourne Pope and Johnel Eugene slammed undefeated half centuries to take their team to victory finishing on 147 for the loss of only two wickets.

Eugene, who capped a wonderful all-round performance was there at the end with 53 along with Jerimah who made 51, while Roberto Sampson, claimed two wickets but could not make any serious inroads for the Jamaicans.
