KINGSTOWN, St Vincent, CMC – Windward Islands, Guyana and Barbados all remained in contention for spot in Sunday’s one-day final of the Regional Under-19 Championship, when they strolled to easy wins in the sixth round of the competition here Thursday.
At Park Hill, the Windwards beat Leeward Islands by eight wickets while at Sion Hill, Guyana got over Jamaica by 32 runs.
In the other game played, Barbados comfortably handled the ICC Americas to come away with a seven-wicket victory.
Heading into the final series of preliminary games on Friday, the Windwards top the standings with 18.3 points, with Guyana second on 17.8 and Barbados third on 17.
Trinidad and Tobago, on 9.9 points, are virtually out of the running with only two teams advancing from the preliminaries.
Windwards had the easiest of wins, bundling out the Leewards for a paltry 54 off 20 overs, with only Tyrone Williams (17) and Camron Pennyfeather (13) reaching double figures.
Left-arm spinner Rasheed Fredericks (3-7) and Jonathan Taylor (3-9) did the damage with three wickets apiece.
In reply, the Windwards coasted to their target off a mere 38 deliveries with opener Anil Matthew striking an unbeaten 39 off of 20 balls with seven fours and a six.
At Arnos Vale, Leniko Boucher and Yvan Grant stroked unbeaten half-centuries as Barbados put on a solid batting performance to chase down 204, with 26 deliveries remaining.
Boucher struck 69 not out off 102 balls with five fours and two sixes while Grant carved out exactly 50 off 86 balls with four fours and a six, in an unbroken fourth wicket stand of 113.
Earlier, West Indies Under-19 all-rounder Chemar Holder grabbed three for 44 to help limit the ICC Americas to 203 all out off their 50 overs.
Opener Akashdeep Gill top-scored with 85 from 186 balls with eight fours and two sixes and his partner Sagar Patel chipped in with 32, as they posted 56 for the first wicket.
Guyana, meanwhile, owed their victory to seamer Sherfane Rutherford after they had been let down by their batting.
Rutherford finished with five for 17 as Jamaica, chasing 191, were dismissed for 159 ff 47.4 overs, with only opener Jordane Hill showing any enterprise with 40.
Earlier, Guyana got up to 190 all out off their 50 overs with Ronaldo Alimohamed top-scoring with 42 and Rutherford weighing in with 34.
